2019 is drawing to a close and our centenary will soon be over too.

To round off the celebrations held to mark this special year, the Bank organised a talk entitled “Sustainable development: our responsibility for the future”. The talk took place on the Bank’s premises and was aimed at companies, policymakers and influencers.

Geoffroy Bazin, Chair of the Executive Committee of BGL BNP Paribas, introduced this prestigious event.

As our first guest, we were honoured to welcome Bertrand Piccard, Founder and Chair of the Solar Impulse Foundation, who spoke on “#1000solutions to protect the environment in a profitable way”.

This was followed by a panel discussion on “Sustainable development: a key aspect of strategic and decision-making processes for businesses”. Valérie Arnold (Partner, Corporate Responsibility & Sustainability Leader, PwC Luxembourg), Antoine Sire (Director of Company Engagement and member of the Executive Committee of the BNP Paribas Group) and René Winkin (Managing Director of FEDIL) shared their thoughts on the topic.

Finally, Finance Minister Pierre Gramegna brought the evening to an end with a closing speech.

BGL BNP Paribas is celebrating its centenary!

On 29 September 1919, the Banque Générale du Luxembourg was founded! The bank’s development is closely intertwined with the history of Luxembourg, which has made BGL BNP Paribas a key player in the financial marketplace.

To celebrate this momentous event, we are launching our virtual exhibition “BGL, one hundred years of history” (in french - supported by the latest versions of Chrome, Safari, Firefox and Microsoft Edge). This exhibition, created in collaboration with the University of Luxembourg, looks at the history of the bank, along with the political and socio-economic context of the time. To give the exhibition even more depth, we focused on three themes in particular: architecture, the brand, and the banking business lines

A word from our employees

To help celebrate 100 years of BGL BNP Paribas, the bank handed the floor over to its employees. Hear what our employees have to say about the arrival of digital technology in the banking sector, how it’s changed their dealings with clients, their perception of their 100 year-old company, and where they see the bank heading over the coming years.

BGL BNP Paribas: rich in history, rich in promise

Banque Générale du Luxembourg was established on 29 September 1919.
Guided by its founding principle of serving the Luxembourg economy, the Bank has actively contributed to the emergence and development of the financial centre.

As one of the country’s leading financial players, the Bank has consistently offered a wide array of banking and insurance products and services to its retail, professional and institutional clients.

Joining the BNP Paribas Group has allowed it to consolidate its international reach

As the Bank has grown and adapted to societal changes over the years, it has always had its sights set on one goal: client satisfaction.

Now, in the digital era, BGL BNP Paribas prides itself on cutting-edge innovation. It demonstrated this once again several weeks ago, when it introduced mobile payment for its clients via Apple Pay.

However, BGL BNP Paribas understands that the human dimension must remain a priority if it is to forge bonds of trust with its clients. That is why it aspires to be “phygital”: in other words, to combine the very best of the human and digital spheres.

The Bank cannot overlook the challenges currently facing society. Building a sustainable world has been the Bank’s objective for the past decade. A culture of responsibility is now embedded at all levels of the company.

BGL BNP Paribas now looks to the next 100 years – because the world is changing, and we are changing with it.
