You can apply for AideFi funding via MyGuichet at any time of year. This funding can take the form of an AideFi student loan from the bank. You can complete the entire student loan process online, including submitting your initial application. You can then go online to draw down a new tranche each semester. With this quick and easy option, your AideFi student loan is only a few clicks away!

After receiving an approval letter including a QR code issued by the Financial Aid Department of the Ministry of Higher Education and Research (MESR), you just need to scan the QR Code with Web Banking Mobile to take out the AideFi student loan.

You can apply for a new government student loan or request new tranches through Web Banking Mobile.

The student loan comprises a basic loan of EUR 3,250 per semester and, depending on your situation, an additional amount for enrolment fees and a means-tested bonus. Repayment of the student loan must begin within two years of the course being completed or terminated. The maximum repayment term is 10 years.

The loan is available to:

Luxembourg nationals and members of their family.
EU nationals who work in Luxembourg and members of their family.
Third country nationals who have lived in Luxembourg for at least five years, and who hold a Luxembourg school leaving certificate or equivalent qualification.

Deadlines for the 2022-2023 academic year:

Winter semester: 1 August 2023 to 30 November 2023
Summer semester: 2 January 2024 to 30 April 2024
Plus enrolment fees: 2 May 2024 to 31 July 2024

Non-resident students who would like to apply for AideFi must also submit a request for financial aid in their country of residence (Crous, student grant, BAFöG, etc.). Please submit this request as early as possible.

The official response (positive or negative) from the competent authorities in your country of residence is needed to obtain AideFi. Make sure you don’t miss the deadlines in your country of residence or Luxembourg; you may add to your application after sending it to the Financial Aid Department, provided the deadline has not passed.

Frequently asked questions

How can I find out how much I can borrow under a state-guaranteed student loan (AideFi)?

You’ll need to apply for financial assistance for each semester and attach the requested documents. Once your application has been assessed by the Luxembourg Ministry of Higher Education and Research (MESR), you’ll be informed of the amount you may claim.
Can I postpone my repayment period if I need a loan for postgraduate studies?

Your advisor will assess your situation and find the best way of financing your studies. Together, you’ll draw up a new repayment plan. Please feel free to discuss these matters with your advisor. They’ll help you pursue your studies with total peace of mind.
Can I secure a rental guarantee for a property in France?

Yes, you can set up a rental guarantee for a property in France. You can use the rental guarantee anywhere in the European Union. To unblock it, your landlords will need to send a letter to the bank confirming that there has been no damage to the property. The guarantee can then be released.
