Since 1975, Echternach has hosted an internationally renowned music festival. The Echternach International Festival has a huge number of performances to its credit, due to demand for the festival that aims to encourage young, talented composers.

Every year, in May and June, this small town of 5,000 inhabitants is transformed into the Mecca of the music world. The particular atmosphere of this town, which is marked by 1,200 years of a rich historical and cultural heritage and its great many architectural wonders, brings music to life against an exceptional backdrop, whether it be in the cathedral or the Church of St Peter and St Paul, which overlooks the town. Leading international artistes such as Krystian Zimerman, Mstislav Rostropovitch, Anne-Sophie Mutter, Yo Yo Ma, Benny Goodman, Bobby McFerrin, Jessye Norman and George Benson to name but a few…

Since 2008, a modern concert hall has welcomed the public in the new cultural centre and congress hall in Echternach, the "Trifolion". The festival's programme ranges from medieval music to world music, through classical and jazz.
